HP LaserJet 1012 Unsupported Personality PCL HP175X J6035D Print Server
( problem id 1012-006 )
I have a HP175X Printer Model Number (J6035D) with a HP1012 Hooked up to it. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and i
get the dreaded Unsupported Personality PCL message. This is hooked up to a network with all computers running windows xp pro
and a HP Prolian ML350 server running UNIX. I get the error message from reports being printed from unix and from things
being printed off of the xp pro computers.
Is this model printer not capable of what i want it to do or is there a setting in the print server i can change to make it
not give this error. Also i can really care less if the windows computers cannot print off of it but the unix reports are a
must. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The LJ1012 is a 'host-based' printer.
As such, it does not understand any of the traditional Page Description Languages (PDLs) like PCL5, PCL6 (PCL XL) or
PostScript.
It does not even understand plain ASCII text (although it might sometimes give the impression that it does, until its buffer
is full).
You need a driver which generates a Jet Ready print stream; there are appropriate Windows drivers available, but I'm not sure
what the situation is with *n*x systems.
